Our French classes allow you to develop all five language skills: speaking, interacting, listening, reading and writing, and will provide you with a wealth of intercultural insight. Adult classes are open to students age 16 and up. We also offer conversation workshops to help you practice your conversation skills. If you are unsure of your level, please contact our Course Director to inquire.

About our Class Levels
Why Learn French with Us?
Most of our in person classes for adults are currently held at the Société Francophone de Victoria, #2-1218 Langley St. You can find the registration form for these classes below. There is a maximum of 15 students per class, with a minimum of 5 students required.
We bring French to you! If you are located in Sidney, we are happy to announce that L'Alliance Française de Victoria offers a limited number of classes near you. To browse our Sidney classes or to sign up, please visit Panorma Recreation Centre's website.
These workshops are for students who already have some French, and who wish to practice their French conversation skills. Parlons français! Students at Level A2 and up are welcome. Conversation workshops are held at the Société Francophone de Victoria, #2-1218 Langley St. Please see the registration form below to sign up. Not sure of your level? Take our placement test to see if you qualify.

This is a fast track intense course designed for total beginners or those who want to start
learning French from scratch in an intensive immersive way. We will cover the basics of French language to create a solid
base that will help you progress confidently.

This class is a continuation of our total beginners class for those who have had some contact with French. In
this class, students will focus on communication around the topics of getting around a city, and family in
French.
Material needed: Odyssée A1 cahier and méthode (Units 3 and 4)

This class is a continuation of our total beginners class for those who have had some contact with French. In
this class, students will focus on communication around the topics of cuisines around the world, and traveling in
French.
Material needed: Odyssée A1 cahier and méthode (Units 7 and 8)

In this class, students will continue learning and practicing skills in French around the topics of historical events and formal introductions.
Material needed: Odyssée A2 cahier and méthode (Unit 3 and 4)

In this class, students will deepen their knowledge and skills in French to express their opinions around the topics of the image of self.

We offer a wide range of levels from Beginner to Advanced French classes. The Alliance Française organizes its teaching on the most modern teaching methods and on the CEFR (the Common European Framework for Languages), a standard reference adopted by dozens of educational systems worldwide.
Can recognise and use familiar words and simple phrases, introduce themselves or someone else, ask and answer basic questions about home, family, surroundings, etc. Can communicate in a basic way when the other person speaks slowly and clearly.
Can understand isolated phrases and common expressions that relate to areas of high personal relevance (personal or family information, shopping, immediate environment, work). Can communicate during easy or habitual tasks requiring a basic and direct information exchange on familiar subjects. Using simple words, can describe his or her surroundings and communicate immediate needs.
Can understand the main points of clear standard speech on familiar subjects in work, school, leisure activities, etc, manage in most situations that come up when travelling in a region where the language is spoken. Can produce a simple and cohesive text on familiar subjects or subjects of personal interest. Can narrate an event, an experience or a dream; describe a desire or goal, and outline reasons behind a project.
Can understand the main ideas of concrete or abstract topics in a complex text, including a technical article in the user’s area of expertise. Can communicate with a degree of spontaneity and fluency during a conversation with a native speaker, in a way that is comfortable for everyone, can speak in a clear, detailed way on a number of subjects; express an opinion on current affairs, giving the advantages and disadvantages of the various options.
Can understand a wide range of long and complex texts, including any subtextual or stylistic nuances. Can express him or herself freely and fluidly, without obviously fumbling for words. Can use the language effectively and fluently in a social, professional or academic context. Can speak in a clear, organised way about complex subjects, developing a well-structured argument.
